About Connective (Mercury Nexus platform)
Connective is one of Australia's largest aggregators and runs the Mercury Nexus broker platform. Mercury Nexus covers loan submissions, compliance and reporting; TrailScope adds the retention, forecasting and AI insight layer that aggregator dashboards typically don't include.
How commission reaches an Connective broker
Connective brokers are paid through Mercury: the lender pays Connective, the agreement is applied, and the commission run lands as a monthly statement — the Mercury statement guide covers where each figure sits. Upfront is a one-off percentage of the settled amount (commonly 0.55–0.715% including GST across Australian lenders, by lender and product); trail is a monthly percentage of the outstanding balance, typically around 0.15% a year.
Mercury exports are column-typed, which is the easier layout: trail, upfront and clawback each have their own columns, and each usually appears twice — Trail (GST Excl) beside Trail (GST Incl), Upfront (GST Excl) beside Upfront (GST Incl). Sum the inclusive columns and you have the month; sum the wrong pair and every figure is 9% light. Connective's MASTER export is different again — it is row-typed like AFG's, with a commission-type discriminator per row — and TrailScope detects which one it has been given rather than assuming.
Three things are set by your aggregator agreement rather than by the lender, and they are where two brokers on the same panel end up with different numbers: the split model (a percentage of every commission, or a flat monthly fee with 100% pass-through), whether trail keeps paying if you move aggregators, and how clawbacks are passed through — netted from the next run, or invoiced. Know all three before you compare your figures with anyone else's.
Whichever column layout you have, book the GST-inclusive figure as the commission and treat the ex-GST twin as a working number — the GST guide shows why recording the exclusive column understates a book by 9%. The lender clawback schedule covers what each lender reclaims on early discharge, and the trail commission calculator projects what one loan pays over its life.
How TrailScope handles your Connective (Mercury Nexus platform) data
First-class support — Connective Mercury column profiles are pre-mapped (loan number, settlement date, lender, balance, commission types). Upload the standard Mercury commission export and TrailScope routes trail, upfront and clawback rows to the right tables automatically.
Typical workflow
Most Connective brokerages we work with upload weekly or monthly. The retention dashboard, lender concentration view and trail income breakdown are the most-used screens; the AI Insights tab surfaces ad-hoc questions like 'which Mercury-flagged clients haven't had a review in 90 days?'.
What you get on top of the aggregator
- Retention scoring — per-loan risk score from 8 weighted factors (settlement age, fixed-expiry proximity, rate-vs-market gap, equity, engagement, loan size, repayment anomaly, tenure).
- Refinance risk alerts — fired on rate-gap drift, fixed-expiry roll-off 90/60/30 days out, and CCR enquiry signals cross-referenced against your client list.
- Clawback exposure forecast — 30/60/90-day at-risk dollar figure based on the actual per-lender clawback schedule, not a generic 24-month assumption.
- Trail income forecasting — 12/24/36-month projections with adjustable churn, rate and clawback-rate assumptions.
- AI insights — bring-your-own Anthropic, OpenAI or Gemini key. Aggregate-only context — names, emails, phone, DOB and free-form notes are stripped before any prompt leaves the workspace.
- PDF reports — 6 fixed reports plus a DIY custom-report builder, all in TrailScope branding.

FAQ
Which Mercury Nexus reports does TrailScope read?
The standard monthly commission/trail export from Mercury Nexus is the primary input. Column profiles are pre-configured; non-standard columns can be mapped on the first upload and remembered for next time.
Does TrailScope replace Mercury Nexus?
No. Mercury Nexus stays the system of record for submissions and compliance. TrailScope is the analytical and retention layer on top of Mercury's commission data.
Can I see Connective concentration risk?
Yes — the lender concentration view flags when one lender exceeds your risk threshold (default 25% of trail). Useful for Connective brokerages writing heavily with one or two banks.
Does TrailScope work with Connective Asset Finance?
TrailScope's calculators and core analytics are mortgage-focused. Asset Finance trail data can be uploaded but won't have all retention features active.
Will my Connective BDM see TrailScope?
No. TrailScope is owned by your brokerage. Your Connective BDM works through Mercury Nexus.
